He grins as he directs the camera on himself and his companion militiamen, their Rapid Support Forces identification on display: "They will all perish in this manner."

The combatants are exulting in a mass killing that relief organizations suspect resulted in the deaths of more than two thousand individuals in the Sudanese metropolis of al-Fashir last month.

An Urban Center Isolated from the World
