DJ Warras was gunned down by a suspect with dreadlocks in broad daylight, police say.

A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Police said the forty-year-old presenter was approached by three individuals, one of whom shot at him before escaping on foot.

The reason of the attack has not been established and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities revealed that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a premises in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the building supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, according to reports.

"Authorities believe the man was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," authorities said.

Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and clad in what resembled a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed across the street.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and nothing was taken during the attack.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the scene.

Appeal for Witnesses

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.

"We know they covered significant ground after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to establish their destination," added an official.

Outpouring of Grief

His sister, Nicole Stock, stated the loved ones are reeling to process his death.

"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."

She requested the public to refrain from sharing explicit content from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's three sons.

A Multifaceted Career

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a South African TV network.

In addition to his role as a presenter, Stock was engaged in various commercial activities, including security provision, supplying high-level security services and managing safety for major functions across South Africa.

He was also understood to participate in property management and assisted with tenant removals.

National Shock

His murder has shocked the country and prompted an wave of remembrances from his fans, the government and political parties.

A senior figure remarked he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's killing.

"He was forthright boldly and honestly. He even challenged me and my actions as a public official. He was a true embodiment of who we should be," he stated.

A public representative stated the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a tragedy for all South Africans".

A media executive said that "Stock was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a skilled narrator, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every moment on screen. His dedication to creativity left an lasting impression."

In a statement, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his charisma, warmth and quick humor, adding that his influence "will endure".
