Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for the English camp after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler added to the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the playing area during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball in his spell on Saturday.

Team management stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and would spend time away from the action to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series in Sydney gets underway on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have been without strike bowlers Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer because of a side injury during this series.

A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, before being recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs with the bat being one of only three England players to get into double digits.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he returned on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, at the end of that over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match having missed of the third.
