The Lionesses versus China – Female Exhibition Match

Preamble

Hello and welcome to the non-competitive fixture between the English side and China at London’s Wembley. This promises to be an exciting contest with the current Euro titleholders facing the holders of the Asian Cup title.

The home of English football is packed for the occasion, which will see the celebrated Fran Kirby celebrated pre-match after her retirement from the national team before the Euro tournament this past summer.

Lineup details will be announced shortly, but there was a last minute squad update for England. On Friday, the goalkeeper Khiara Keating withdrew from the squad with a slight knock, and so ex-first choice Ellie Roebuck has been summoned.

With Hannah Hampton injured, it will be notable to find out who head coach Sarina Wiegman selects in goal. That news and all the other updates are incoming before kick-off at 5:30 in the evening GMT.

Squad Updates

The team news is in. Anna Moorhouse will be the goalkeeper for England in the non-presence of Hannah Hampton and Khiara Keating.

England: Moorhouse, Bronze, Charles, Walsh, Le Tissier, Morgan, Mead, Stanway, Russo, Toone, Hemp.

Substitutes: Hings, Baggaley, Kendall, Wubben-Moy, Beever-Jones, Kelly, Kearns, Park, Blindkilde Brown, Roebuck, Clinton, Denton, Fisk, Godfrey.

We are awaiting the Chinese lineup now; when it comes through, I will share it.

Leadership Role

Keira Walsh is serving as captain for the Lionesses with Leah Williamson still unfit. She shared these thoughts before this match:

Maunch Appearance

This evening’s match will be Anna Moorhouse’s debut for England. She featured in the Euro-winning side who claimed victory this past summer, but she remained on the bench with Hannah Hampton in the starting goalkeeper role.
